When I turned Wyrmworks Publishing into a full-time career dedicated to helping you make lives better, I knew that I couldn’t create authentic representations of disabilities, neurodivergence, and mental illness without learning from those I wanted to represent. During the 2-year production time for the publication of Limitless Heroics, I was diagnosed with hearing loss, ADHD, and depression, but I still don’t identify as disabled.
I firmly believe in, “Nothing about us without us,” so both to support the community and to ensure the authenticity of our work, I hired as many creators from those communities as possible and continue to strive for more.
But it’s not enough.
I’ve received so many freelance applications from amazing creators, I want to hire more, but two crowdfunding projects each year don’t offer much opportunity for that. We can never fully represent the vast diversity of people’s experiences, but the more connections we make, the closer we get. And the more authentically we represent an accessible world, the more those ideas and perspectives can enter the real world like fey crossings.
Help us Design a Better World
Last week, I mentioned our upcoming accesspunk world, Andovir. To achieve the goals above, we need your help. We need to be able to hire a diverse range of creators to work with many supporters, both disabled and non-disabled, with a wide range of ideas to create this world, so we’ve launched the Wyrm’s Workshop, an opportunity to add your ideas to this forming world and see them published in forthcoming books while paying creators a fair wage for their work.
Just as Limitless Heroics features a wide array of magic items and 50 characters created by our supporters in collaboration with our team, and Limitless Champions includes some of those characters plus six new submitted ones, we want to offer you the same opportunity to have your ideas canonized in our world! We have a wide variety of options, from spells and monsters to entire cities!
This will also help our future crowdfunding campaigns succeed by partially pre-funding the initial costs so we can pay creators before the campaign, set lower funding goals, produce more frequent content, and fulfill rewards quicker.
We will add these contributions to the Lair as they’re completed so you can enjoy them and share your thoughts while waiting for their publication in future books, offering more content to our Patreon subscribers and accelerating the growth of the Andovir setting.
