Last week, for the first time since early 2020, our home D&D group finally met in person, sort of. We planned to meet, but the BBEG of TTRPG, Scheduling, attacked at the last minute.
Over the past 3 years, our group has dwindled to two players, and two of us were already on our way when the third had to cancel, so I grabbed a previously written one-shot, and we played anyway. And we had a great time.
Sitting at the same table, rolling dice, swapping stories, communicating without the limits of online conferencing…it was like coming home.
My conclusion: TTRPGs with just two people are better than none, and for me personally, even with all the great tools in VTTs for managing and calculating, nothing beats sitting at a physical table.
I know it’s not for everyone for all kinds of reasons, so I’m glad so many options exist to meet a wide variety of needs, and we’re working to make even more options available and make existing options more accessible. |
