After the election here in the States, I was losing sleep and in a bad place emotionally for about 48 hours. I like to refer to myself as a “purveyor of hope,” but for the first time ever following an election, I struggled to find hope.
Project 2025 and Trump’s campaign promises of outlawing affirmative action, import tariffs, restoring health insurance costs for preexisting conditions, and cutting the already stingy benefits to the poor and disabled threaten to put Wyrmworks Publishing out of business. But more than that, I felt like we were beginning to make progress on building a more inclusive society, and this landslide result felt like our progress was all a lie.
But never in my life have I walked away from a fight worth having, and I will always fight for the underprivileged and marginalized, no matter how powerful the BBEG. (Hey, we fought and beat Hasbro in the OGL crisis — why not take on the whole US government?!)
But how can you or I with our limited resources take on such a powerful foe? I present #DefiantKindness. My wife and I had already signed up and are being trained to volunteer with a local organization that helps domestic violence victims, the impoverished and homeless, and provides immigration assistance. Their work directly counters many of Trump’s proposed policies. If we all, each according to our available resources and abilities, take opportunities to show kindness in defiance of the trends toward cruelty, we can win.
If you’ve ever wanted to run a TTRPG with a massive battle of armies and multiple tables all playing in the same setting, you can have different parties with different assignments within that battle, like one party destroying a siege weapon and another capturing a vital officer. In our real world, your quest may be volunteering, offering comfort and support to a friend, or any number of other acts of kindness.
And as a company, we’re working on an idea to make D&D more financially accessible to everyone. (Yet another "Nobody has ever done this before" project.) I shared that idea with our patrons and will share it here hopefully in the near future once we determine its viability. It's a big project, but some of our TTRPG allies have already offered their help, so I'm optimistic. Watch these updates or join our Patreon for more details.
And I can't thank you enough just for reading this and being a subscriber. You encourage us to roll initiative every day to fight for a better world. |
