Helping you make lives better through Tabletop Roleplaying Games

Hi {name}!

Last week, I told my therapist, "The anxious thoughts and feelings seem impossible to get rid of. I can't imagine them ever going away."

She said, "I have some exercises for you to help redirect the mental pathways."

"Redirect the pathways" caught my attention, because I know that the brain works by forming neural networks. Changing a thought pattern is a physiological change in the brain cells to send signals in a different direction. But sometimes, it feels like this scene from Romancing the Stone, cutting through rough terrain with no sign of improvement. In my case, I need a therapist to be the Ranger who can take a machete and create a new trail.

Help Blaze the Trail

Fighting cultural ableism can often seem like that same insurmountable obstacle. When I watch TV on Hulu, I notice that most of the ads, even those targeting retirees, don’t use captions, so unless I turn up the volume (which I can’t if my kids are sleeping), they wasted their money on me and countless others. But because it’s so prevalent, it seems like nothing can be done (besides not buying those products).

But sometimes, the opportunity arises to effect change, to pick up the machete and carve a new path, and we have some opportunities to do that!

Anthony Reno has remastered the classic D&D cartoon to 4K on YouTube. I’ve been watching it with my kids, and they love it. And while YouTube has automatic captions, they’re more comical than useful with their inaccuracies on that show. So I asked Anthony whether we could submit manual captions so everyone could benefit from them, and he was thrilled at the offer.

So I’m extending this offer to you, the Dragon’s Hoard, to help make these cartoons more accessible by editing the 27 text files with the correct captions. If you can help:

  • Fill out this form, and claim one or more episodes to edit.
  • I’ll send you the automatic transcript with timestamps. Find the episode in this playlist, and edit the text file to match the words.
  • Send it back to me, and I’ll send it to Anthony.
  • Once we finish the project, I will post an article on our website about it, crediting everyone who helped, and you’ll also get a coupon for our store to thank you for your help.

As Dungeon Master might say, “Sometimes, you need to see in order to hear!”

Use a Blackout to Shine Light

But some need to hear so others may see.

Reddit has recently announced changes that would eliminate all third-party apps that access their content. Since the official app is not accessible to blind or low-vision users, this forces them out along with anyone else who relies on other apps for accessibility. In protest, many subreddits are shutting down for 48 hours or more. Learn more here and how to help:
