Helping you make lives better through Tabletop Roleplaying Games

Hi {name}!

In this update:

  • When you're stuck in a pit, look up
  • Our next Kickstarter, only $1!
  • How to make the perfect TTRPG for that one kid you want to connect with!

Ever feel like it’ll never end?

Last week, I got slammed with a nasty cold. I have a great immune system, so this only happens once or twice a year. I pretty much have to roll a 1 to get sick with whatever is going around.

But since my only fail is a critical fail, when I get hit, I get hit hard. I had to cancel D&D — I thought maybe I could play online to avoid contagion. I wasn’t even up to that. And on the worst days, I feel like it’s never going to end.

But I noticed that, as some days were better than others, I only felt hopeless on the bad days. The body and mind communicate with each other, and the mind can start taking its cues from the body.

If you have chronic illness, mental illness, or another condition that lingers and fluctuates, you may think, “OK, but you’ll be done in another week. This is my life.” I get that. I’m learning that the traumas that I’ve experienced are a part of me forever, and I’m learning how to respond to them.

You may think about ableism and other societal injustices and think, “It’s never going to end.” And when the news media constantly emphasizes tragedy for the sake of more clicks, it can feel like you’re in a pit with spiked walls closing in.

Our party’s wizard has a habit of looking up every time he enters a new environment. Whatever pit you’re in, look up. We’re at the top, dropping a rope down to you. Tie it to yourself, then as we pull, use the spikes as ladder rungs to do what you can from your end.

That won’t be the last trap, but we’re in this adventure together. Whatever lurks around the next corner, we’re all rolling initiative with you.

Announcing our Next Kickstarter!

We've all been there, eagerly awaiting a night of dungeon delving and dragon slaying, only to be left hanging due to unforeseen circumstances. But fear not, because our next Kickstarter is here to save the day and ensure that no gaming session goes to waste!

Projects We Love
Making a tabletop RPG for YOUR particular Kid A guide for families, friends, and facilitators By Steph Campbell from TTRPGKids Sign up for the Crowdf undr through the TTRPGkids.com homepage to help bring this project to life!

When we were foster parents, each child who came to our house needed to be loved and supported differently. The social workers offered us some "works every time" books when we were struggling. (One of the books even claimed that, if their method didn't work, we were doing it wrong!) We sometimes found a nugget or two of useful information in them, but there was no substitute for just getting to know each child and responding accordingly to meet their needs. Every kid is different.

So I'm thrilled to point you to "Making a Tabletop RPG for YOUR Particular Kid" by Steph Campbell from TTRPGKids (a recent guest on Gaining Advantage). This comprehensive resource book condenses the expertise from over 350 articles on the ENnie-awarded TTRPGkids site into one easy-to-use reference, allowing you to create TTRPG stories that both you and your kids will love. Whether you're a parent, friend, or facilitator, this guide will help you understand your kid's needs and interests, adjust settings, encounters, and characters accordingly, and even incorporate educational elements into your game.

For me, this is the "works every time" book that I wish we had all those years ago. If you have kids in your life that you want to connect with (I'm thinking of my grandson.), this is a fantastic bridge to make that happen.

Thanks for your support!
